In my last blog, I talked about time management. Hopefully I have opened some eyes about how you choose to spend your time. There is one other aspect, however, that goes along with time management, and that’s motivation. Motivation has an enormous effect on us every day. Motivation helps us make important decisions day in and day out. So why not use motivation to get fit? In my opinion there are two types of motivation that keep us going: Intrinsic and Extrinsic.
Intrinsic motivation comes from within one’s self. People that have intrinsic motivation don’t need outside sources to become motivated, they find it themselves. These types of people find reasons to get themselves to the gym, whether it be for an occasion, another person, or simply to live a healthier life. Extrinsic motivators require outside help to become motivated.
Typically, extrinsic people obtain motivation from sources such as therapists, doctors, and in the fitness industry, personal trainers. As a personal trainer, I have dealt with both extremes and neither one outweighs the other. Some require the motivation I provide them because without me they would not push themselves as they should. Others train with me not only to learn new exercises and techniques, but also help reach goals they have already set for themselves.
Whether you are an intrinsic person or extrinsic person, personal training can give you that extra motivation you have been looking for. Come in for a free fitness assessment and tour our facility. I look forward to helping you meet your health and fitness goals!
